Can you shower with gold jewelry?

It depends on how the gold is attached. Gold plated jewelry should stay dry — water accelerates the wear that exposes the base metal. PVD-bonded gold over stainless steel is fully waterproof, so you can shower, swim, sweat and sleep in it without removing it.

Water itself does not damage gold. What it damages is the bond between a thin gold layer and whatever sits underneath. Standard plating is a surface coating, and repeated wetting and drying lifts it. Soap and shampoo speed this up because surfactants get under the edges.

PVD works differently. The gold is driven into the surface of the steel at a molecular level in a vacuum chamber, the same process used on luxury watch cases. There is no layer to lift, which is why our pieces carry a lifetime color warranty and are designed to be worn continuously.

One practical note: after swimming in the ocean, rinse with fresh water. Salt left to dry will not damage the finish, but it dulls the shine until you rinse it off.
