Does gold jewelry turn your skin green?
Real gold does not turn your skin green. The green mark comes from copper or brass in cheap base metals reacting with moisture and the acids in your skin. If your jewelry has a stainless steel core, there is no copper to react, so no green.
That faint green stain is copper oxidizing. Most inexpensive fashion jewelry uses brass or copper underneath a thin gold coating. As soon as that coating wears through — usually within weeks — sweat, water and skin oils reach the base metal and the reaction begins. It is harmless, but it stains and it means the piece is already failing.
The fix is the base metal, not the gold. Our pieces are built on 316L stainless steel with 18k gold bonded to it through PVD. Stainless steel contains no copper, so there is nothing to oxidize even once the piece has been worn daily for years.
If a piece has already marked you, that tells you what it is made of. No amount of cleaning changes the underlying metal.
